-Message from the Founder-
In 2003 I created the Father-Daughter Scholarship in memory of my dad. I had received a very special scholarship the year before at Lyons Township High School (LaGrange, IL) as a graduating senior for outstanding accomplishments through the loss of a parent. The young daughter who granted the scholarship stayed in touch with me during my freshman year in college and this relationship empowered me. She then supported my idea to pay my gratitude forward by creating a new scholarship with a unique twist. The Father-Daughter Scholarship gave females in the graduating class of Lyons Township High School a chance to express the significance and their gratitude for their current father-daughter relationship. LTHS was happy to help me get the Father-Daughter Scholarship started and my mom assisted by faxing and mailing important documents to me while I studied at the University of Iowa. I raised money by mailing personal letters to friends, family, teachers, coaches and anyone else I could remember. May 2004 marked the first year I granted the Father-Daughter Scholarship In Memory of Richard J. Meyer. After more than a decade’s worth of success with the scholarship and a new interest sparked by a comment from my husband, I decided to grow the scholarship into the Father-Daughter Foundation a registered 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization. In order to do so, I needed a strong team of individuals who I knew would support and protect my mission, while helping me gain perspective and always keeping me humble. I am blessed to have a supportive team of wonderful and compassionate individuals.
